My name is Tevin Acklin or The Silent Best Man as you will become more acquainted with in the future. When we propose to that special someone, the truth is we are going in blind to the process of having a wedding. Most of us don’t realize that we have a voice, an opinion and most importantly that we are partners in the process. Our role is bigger than proposing and standing at the altar on the big day!
When our Founder Irene Tyndale started Irene Tyndale Events she knew that she had to not only service the Bride’s needs and that she would also take care of all her Grooms. Irene realized there was a need for this when she and her husband were planning their wedding back in 2004 (they just celebrated their 16th anniversary). They attended a local Central Florida Bridal Show where Irene received a cute Bride sticker, gift bags and lots of attention while Duane received a “Guest” sticker and all vendors only spoke to her and honestly ignored him. Of course, that didn’t sit well with him since he was actively involved in the planning process. Upon leaving the show Duane made Irene promise to take care of the Groom as much as the Bride. Irene has been providing Grooms Concierge services for over 15+ years.
I joined the ITWE team in June 2018 as an assistant, over the next few months I worked with our grooms on the wedding day and made sure they looked good and had what they needed. This was great and they all appreciated the day-of assistance but I noticed a bigger need. I recall having a conversation with Irene about our grooms and how we can further assist them during the planning process. The topic spans from attire to pre-wedding day functions, grooming, to just simply explaining the planning process in a way that they would understand. The need for grooms to be advised efficiently but most importantly with care is what keeps me moving for the gentlemen I serve.
I was born in Conway, Arkansas and raised in Norcross, GA. After high school I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for 6 years. During my time there, I deployed to Afghanistan as well as serving as a Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Doha, Qatar. While on embassy duty I was tasked with planning and executing the Marine Corps Ball for both countries as well as the guest host for the ball in Kyiv, Ukraine. After 6 years I decided to exit the Marines and pursue a degree in Hospitality.
My first introduction to the Hospitality industry was by way of men’s fashion, specifically tailored garments. I began in a local men’s haberdashery and noticed that I had a penchant for understanding styles, occasions, and the overall perception of men as they wore clothes. The Marines opened my mind to paying attention to the details which is also why my haberdashery assigned me to coordinate, organize, and style the groom’s party over the past 4 years.
You can think of me as that voice in your head that just makes dude logic. My goal is to assist you in paying an active role in the planning process.
