Make IT Stylish – Brides Against Breast Cancer

We love hearing about wedding businesses and vendors who give back to the community, and today we want to feature a very special organization, Brides Against Breast Cancer in Atlanta, GA. This organization recently came into our lives because of our affiliation with Bridal Ball (more details on that below).

Brides Against Breast Cancer studio

Brides Against Breast Cancer (“BABC”) formed in 1997 as a charity and has since helped thousands of women buy affordable, pre-owned wedding gowns and has donated millions to cancer-related charities. For the past 20 years, BABC has been touring across America, hosting bridal shows that have helped those impacted by cancer, one dress at a time.

In late 2016, BABC was relaunched from Atlanta under new ownership and management. They formed as a social enterprise company with national charity partners, and they support breast cancer causes nationwide due to their partnership with Living Beyond Breast Cancer. BABC also has a partnership with Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, which is one of the biggest and most active breast cancer charities in the state of Georgia.

If you are a former bride wishing to donate a wedding dress to this wonderful cause, the process is quite simple. Just mail them your gown to the address provided and complete the web form on their website. That’s it! They do request gowns that are less than 5 years old and that are in good condition. They also accept veils, tiaras and other wedding accessories.

Get your ticket the Bridal Ball & Brides Against Breast Cancer Wedding Showcase of the Intercontinental Buckhead on July 16th here! We’ll be there and would love to see YOU there too!

Make IT Happen: Wedding Timeline Tips

Among all of the checklists, to-dos and other wedding details, the wedding day timeline is probably one of the most important! While the timeline is more of a guideline of how the day will go, it’s extremely helpful to keep things on track for both your vendors and your guests. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating a timeline for your wedding day.

Photography Schedule
Bride and groom hand heart, Georgia wedding planner

It’s important to consider when and where you will be taking photos throughout the day. If you are willing to see each other before the ceremony, then you have more time during cocktail hour to mingle with your guests, which is what I recommend. It is becoming more popular to do a “first look” session, followed by wedding party and family photos prior to the wedding ceremony. Otherwise, if you prefer to not see each other before the ceremony, it is recommended to have an extended cocktail hour (1.5-2 hours) so you have enough time to take photos and still enjoy a portion of your social hour before the reception begins!

Receiving Line
Bride and groom ceremony exit, Georgia wedding planner

A receiving line can occur in a few different formats. You can dismiss guests by row (after the recessional), where you greet each guest before they exit the ceremony. Your parents can also dismiss guests by row, where the guests then greet you outside of the ceremony venue. Another more casual option is to greet guests during your cocktail hour, if you aren’t offsite taking photos. Regardless, plan for about 30 minutes per 100 guests for a receiving line when creating your wedding day timeline.

Food Timing
wedding food catering, Georgia wedding planner

The timing of wedding food service ultimately depends on the style of service and how many guests you have. Common food service options include plated, buffet and family style. For plated and family style service, it takes about 30-40 minutes to serve each course. Buffets take roughly 30 minutes per 100 guests, and I recommend double-sided buffets to ensure a speedy experience!

Summer Wedding Planning Tips

Summer is great for pool parties, late-night movies, and beach vacations. It’s a great time of the year to unwind and enjoy the extended daylight. Star gazing and BBQing. What is isn’t always great for in the South is a wedding! Because let’s face it. It can get downright HOT, and if you don’t prepare and plan properly, you and your guests will be miserable!

Here are my top tips (some of which I’ve mentioned in previous posts) for making the most of your Summer wedding planning:

Plan an INDOOR wedding! Ha! Although an indoor wedding IS the best solution for avoiding the heat, we understand that sometimes your dream vision is a wide open space. We completely get that. The “look” of your wedding day is part of your complete vision! For those of you that prefer an outdoor affair, be sure to have a tent or large area with sun shade/coverage. For both the ceremony and reception, consider adding a handheld fan to each seat. This will help if there isn’t much of a breeze.

1d7168b764a8c9700de5c4435cb0b261

Have plenty of water available for you and your guests- make sure it’s icy cold and easily accessible. Even better, have it special ordered to coordinate with the wedding theme.

881dfac58d7d939bf3eb226e31a8b75d

Consider adding frozen drinks to your bar,  including non-alcoholic options.  Everyone loves frozen libations an extra hot Summer day. Think margaritas and daiquiris. Frozen lemonade is great too! Another tasty and fun alternative is a popsicle bar. This allows people to enjoy a frozen treat alone or dunked in some champagne (yum!)!

grid-cell-5640-1426971404-3

Choose your wedding attire for the weather! Although you may LOVE a ballgown, if you are opting for an outdoor ceremony or reception, you’ll be sweltering.  Although a full tux may look rather dapper, a drenched groom doesn’t. So, consider your dress and groom’s attire carefully. Summer is a great time of year for tea-length gowns, short cocktail style dresses and light, airy fabrics. Strapless, spaghetti strap, cap sleeve and low or open back dresses are great for summer as well. AND, you may want to wear your hair in an updo to keep your neck and shoulders cool.

11349460_135297550145789_1444458162_n

Although some of these ideas may be pretty “common sense”, they’re easy to forget! Budget in an inclement weather fund and be prepared to spend it! Summer weddings are carefree and easy with the right preparation.

BLOG LEAP

Happy Leap Day! Welcome to our Leap Blog!

Enjoy the great ideas, tips and inspirations as you Leap along through the blog leap.  You may just be starting the blog leap or may have come from Katie Snyder at Katie Snyder Photography.  If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you make sure to see and learn from all of the articles featured here today.

Five tips to organizing your Wedding Brain

Congratulations! You have found the man of your dreams and he asked you to be his wife! Now what? Where do you start? Bridal Show? Wedding Magazines? Pinterest? With so many planing options out there today it takesIt is hard to stay focus on the reason why your getting married with a never ending task list.

Step #1 Show me the Money!
Long are the days of tradition when the “Bride’s family paid for the wedding”. Talking about money is never easy, but it is crucial step in the wedding planning process. Sit down with both sets of parents and discuss the budget and your vision. This will help you narrow down your choices of venues Take care of this ASAP so that you can start planning for the wedding you can afford.

Step #2 Guest who’s coming to dinner?

Your guest list will be dictated by your budget and will assist you in choosing your venue and vendors.

jen9

When creating your guest list think about who in your lives you would want present on your Wedding Day.  Create a must invite list first with your closet family and friends.  These are the people that mean the most to you.  Cut guest that you haven’t spoken with in over a year, eliminate co-workers, second cousins, etc.  Everyone will want to be invited but not everyone is a VIP on this day.

Step #3-So, When is the big day?
The number one question after you tell your engagement story is When’s the big day? Finding the perfect wedding date can be overwhelming. Here are a few key things to consider: season and time, budget, destination, schedules, venue and vendor availability. Then choose 2-3 dates in case your preferred dates are not available.

Step #4  What’s your wedding style?
Step away from Pinboard! With so many beautiful weddings on Pinterest how do you know your wedding style?HELBR309_

Are you Classic? City Chic? Vintage? or Rustic? Your wedding style should be determined by your personal styles; from the way you dress, decorate your home to your passions. Who you are couple should be visible in the details throughout your wedding day

Step #5  Choose your Dream Team
View More: http://brimcdanielphotography.pass.us/angelicapaulweddingChoosing the right vendor can be tricky, so where do you start? Referrals are the best research you can do.  Talk to your friends (especially if they’ve been married recently). Personal referrals are the best. Browse through local blogs, magazines & wedding directories for advice and inspiration. Once you have researched and narrowed down your choices make an appointment with at least two vendors per category to help you compare. It is very important that you not only like their portfolio you also like them on a personal level. You need to have a team that you trust with the most important day of your life!

Bonus-Book your Vendors in the following order:

Ceremony Location
Reception Venue
Wedding Planner
Photographer
Catering if not provided by the venue
Entertainment
Stationary/Invitations
Designer {Floral & Decor}
Rentals

I hope these steps will help ease your “Wedding Brain” and get you focused. Remember to take some time out from planning to stay connected to your fiance and remember the reason why your getting married.

Guest Blogger Post: Nicole Conner Photography shares new Wedding Trend

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m part of a group called The Rising Tide Society. A photographer that I admire recently posted a blog that I loved. So, I asked her if she would be a guest on MY blog, sharing the same post here.  Please meet Nicole Conner, of Nicole Conner Photography. Here is her take on a new wedding trend- the Toss Table!

Nicole Conner Photography_1193

I’m starting to see a new trend that I call the  “Toss Table” emerge and this is one that I would LOVE to see stick around for quite some time. It makes the walk down the aisle as newlyweds such fun! Not only does it look fantastic for photos, but really enhances the celebratory moment for you as newlyweds!

So, wondering just what to put on a toss table? Here are my top three recommendations:

Flower Petals!  This is an oldie, but goodie. Although Rose petals are the more traditional option, I adore peonies. They smell divine. But there are so many pretty petals available now- be it freesia, hydrangea, daisies. Ask your florist for a list of in-season blooms that could be appropriate. Think about your color choice- be it white or a bold color, choose something that works with your color scheme and will either blend with your attire or be a complete contrast.

Leaves!  Yep. Leaves. But don’t think icky brown leaves that have been hanging out in the dirt. Think lush foliage. Olive leaves are fantastic. And during the fall, yellow maple leaves are swoon worthy.

Confetti!  Be it paper confetti in a variety of colors or super sparkly glitter style, this is ALWAYS such fun.  Nothing makes you feel shiny and new like confetti. It is nostalgic while being trendy. That is a hard combination to find and you really can’t beat it.

Once you’ve decided on what your guests will toss, be sure to set-up a table near your programs. If you don’t have programs, that’s quite alright! Just set-up a table near the entrance to the ceremony and leave instructions for your guests {idea- insert an awesome custom sign here }. Make sure they have a vessel of sorts to hold said toss item. Little paper or wax bags work great.

After your ceremony, wait for your guests to rain down flower, foliage or paper love! Simple, fun, and just plain awesome.”
