Make IT Happen: Wedding Timeline Tips

Among all of the checklists, to-dos and other wedding details, the wedding day timeline is probably one of the most important! While the timeline is more of a guideline of how the day will go, it’s extremely helpful to keep things on track for both your vendors and your guests. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating a timeline for your wedding day.

Photography Schedule
Bride and groom hand heart, Georgia wedding planner

It’s important to consider when and where you will be taking photos throughout the day. If you are willing to see each other before the ceremony, then you have more time during cocktail hour to mingle with your guests, which is what I recommend. It is becoming more popular to do a “first look” session, followed by wedding party and family photos prior to the wedding ceremony. Otherwise, if you prefer to not see each other before the ceremony, it is recommended to have an extended cocktail hour (1.5-2 hours) so you have enough time to take photos and still enjoy a portion of your social hour before the reception begins!

Receiving Line
Bride and groom ceremony exit, Georgia wedding planner

A receiving line can occur in a few different formats. You can dismiss guests by row (after the recessional), where you greet each guest before they exit the ceremony. Your parents can also dismiss guests by row, where the guests then greet you outside of the ceremony venue. Another more casual option is to greet guests during your cocktail hour, if you aren’t offsite taking photos. Regardless, plan for about 30 minutes per 100 guests for a receiving line when creating your wedding day timeline.

Food Timing
wedding food catering, Georgia wedding planner

The timing of wedding food service ultimately depends on the style of service and how many guests you have. Common food service options include plated, buffet and family style. For plated and family style service, it takes about 30-40 minutes to serve each course. Buffets take roughly 30 minutes per 100 guests, and I recommend double-sided buffets to ensure a speedy experience!

Meet our New North Georgia Mountains Senior Associate Planner, Shelby

We’re so excited to announce that we’re expanding! We’ve recently added a new North Georgia Mountains Senior Associate Planner AND we’re also hiring in the Atlanta area for a lead wedding coordinator and coordinator apprentice (more on that soon).  Shelby is an incredibly dynamic personality that we’re thrilled to add to our team!   We’ve included her bio below so that you can get just a glimpse inside her mind. We can’t wait to start sharing her beautiful work!

From the desk of Shelby Connor, North Georgia Mountains Senior Associate Wedding Planner, North Georgia and Blue Ridge Mountains Wedding Planner:

Hey you! It’s so good to have you here.

I’m the ITE Events wedding planner in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the North Georgia wedding planner for our team. To tell you a little bit about me…

My favorite quote is by Mary Oliver and it whimsically reads, “Keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable.” I love the idea of keeping some space to allow for the really spectacular to happen.
I’m a farm girl at heart (and in real life) and love how the Georgia mountain air makes me feel right at home. I graduated summa cum laude from a small school in Bristol, VA where I studied Business Administration with a concentration in Management and minored in English. I also played on the Women’s Volleyball Team and served as the captain my senior year.

Let me take you back to one of my favorite wedding memories:

I was doing a wedding at the Stanley House in Marietta, an old civil war home turned B&B, and, due to rain, we had to move the ceremony inside–with the bride scheduled to make her grand entrance down the main staircase.

The violinist started playing and the whole bridal party made it down the aisle without a hitch…but when it came time for the bride, the look of panic in her escort’s eyes told me something wasn’t right. So I went dashing out the back entrance and up the outdoor stairs in the rain(as not to be seen), only to find the bride had gone back into her suite to put on some lipgloss! I quickly got her into place, dashed back through my secret passageway, and got her to her groom in time to say “I do!”

Whew! Remembering that story still makes me winded. We’d love to be a part of your big day, too. Contact us to tell us what you’re dreaming up for your Blue Ridge Mountains or North Georgia wedding.

With Southern warmth,

Shelby Connor

Romantic. Eclectic. Adaptable. Methodical. Attentive.

Nisha + Jamie’s Multicultural Wedding, Atlanta History Center

It’s been a few months since Nisha  & Jamie’s Spring wedding (March), and we can’t help ourselves from sharing their beautiful wedding day! It was a dream working with these two lovebirds. By hosting a more traditional American ceremony and an Indian reception, the couple was able to blend the two culturally diverse wedding day elements beautifully. We love multicultural weddings and find that they’re very memorable. The decor is outstanding, the celebration joyous and the family extremely welcoming!

The guest list is usually rather large, so finding the right venue can be a challenge. The Atlanta History Center fits the bill perfectly! The ballroom is gorgeous, and the grounds make for great photo ops!

Summer Wedding Planning Tips

Summer is great for pool parties, late-night movies, and beach vacations. It’s a great time of the year to unwind and enjoy the extended daylight. Star gazing and BBQing. What is isn’t always great for in the South is a wedding! Because let’s face it. It can get downright HOT, and if you don’t prepare and plan properly, you and your guests will be miserable!

Here are my top tips (some of which I’ve mentioned in previous posts) for making the most of your Summer wedding planning:

Plan an INDOOR wedding! Ha! Although an indoor wedding IS the best solution for avoiding the heat, we understand that sometimes your dream vision is a wide open space. We completely get that. The “look” of your wedding day is part of your complete vision! For those of you that prefer an outdoor affair, be sure to have a tent or large area with sun shade/coverage. For both the ceremony and reception, consider adding a handheld fan to each seat. This will help if there isn’t much of a breeze.

1d7168b764a8c9700de5c4435cb0b261

Have plenty of water available for you and your guests- make sure it’s icy cold and easily accessible. Even better, have it special ordered to coordinate with the wedding theme.

881dfac58d7d939bf3eb226e31a8b75d

Consider adding frozen drinks to your bar,  including non-alcoholic options.  Everyone loves frozen libations an extra hot Summer day. Think margaritas and daiquiris. Frozen lemonade is great too! Another tasty and fun alternative is a popsicle bar. This allows people to enjoy a frozen treat alone or dunked in some champagne (yum!)!

grid-cell-5640-1426971404-3

Choose your wedding attire for the weather! Although you may LOVE a ballgown, if you are opting for an outdoor ceremony or reception, you’ll be sweltering.  Although a full tux may look rather dapper, a drenched groom doesn’t. So, consider your dress and groom’s attire carefully. Summer is a great time of year for tea-length gowns, short cocktail style dresses and light, airy fabrics. Strapless, spaghetti strap, cap sleeve and low or open back dresses are great for summer as well. AND, you may want to wear your hair in an updo to keep your neck and shoulders cool.

11349460_135297550145789_1444458162_n

Although some of these ideas may be pretty “common sense”, they’re easy to forget! Budget in an inclement weather fund and be prepared to spend it! Summer weddings are carefree and easy with the right preparation.

Top picks for Lace Wedding Dresses

We all know that the wedding dress is a BIG deal! You aren’t a bride until you have the wedding dress that perfectly suits you! Here is the South, lace is a popular option. But how could it not be? It is elegant, refined and classic. With the option for white, ivory, embellished with pearls or  rhinestones, full body or just accents,  there is likely a lace overlay or fabric for you!  I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite lace wedding dresses and gowns for you below.

A-Line & Sheath Styles
