The question had haunted me for months now. I had my diploma and the summer had come and gone, so it was time to face it: What was I going to do with my life? I began to answer this question in the only way I knew how…by asking more questions. What did I enjoy doing? What was I passionate about? And what was I good at? After I had formulated my responses to these questions I took the next step and started the dreaded internet job search. So broad and so vague, it could take you in so many different directions.
Fortunately for me, my search took me in the right direction. I had narrowed it down to “Event Planning” in Georgia (really specific, I know). My family had just relocated so I was up for anything. Although my living situation had not quite been arranged yet I was willing to make it work. Amidst my search results was a posting for an internship with a Wedding and Event Planner in the greater Atlanta area. The add promised opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the wedding and event industry, to be involved in the operations of bridal shows, and even to grow within the company! This sounded pretty ideal to me, so I sent in my application and waited. Before long I was corresponding via e-mail with Irene herself, and soon after we set up a time for a phone interview. I prepared several pages of interview questions and answers. Being a business major, I knew it was important to sell myself right from the start. But the conversation with Irene was so easy and natural that I put down the papers and was able to truly talk as myself. And as they say, the rest is history!
I jumped right in, shadowing Irene in everything from overseeing the bridal suite to serving the cake (which is not typical I assure you, but that is a story for another time). Now here I am eight months later writing blog posts and overseeing a handful of weddings on my own. I already have one bridal show under my belt and the business is still growing. It is amazing where hard work and dedication can take you. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me here at Irene Tyndale Events.
We are accepting interns for the Summer & Fall 2015 season. Please send in your resume & cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
